A somewhat surprising new perspective on life.
Let’s just say last month didn’t exactly go the way I planned. My new advice would be not to fall off your steep driveway onto your head. I managed to crack my scull and spend the next four-plus weeks recovering from a head injury that could have been dramatically worse if it wasn’t for the help of my amazing friends and family. I’m incredibly grateful for the people around me and their contribution to my life and I’m aware that unfortunately a lot of people aren’t so lucky, and suffer from a lot more.
Among the many hours spent contemplating which superpower I may have gained and worrying about my ability to be myself again. I also couldn’t stop my mind from falling back into a somewhat surprising perspective. Behind the trippy dreams and insanely painful streak of headaches lay a powerful new perspective on my life. I was under no impression that I would somewhat gain a new understanding of my life if it were to take a scary dive in a new direction. However, this slight trial run has taught me some lessons I didn’t necessarily see coming. Maybe I just watch too many movies or something, but I weirdly expected my mind to spiral, while I headed out on an almighty quest for greatness. Instead, I gained a greater understanding of the everyday choices I make and their impact on the way I live and treat my life. Daily choices, responses and opinions became the highlighted lines that will now define my reflection on the life I have been grateful to experience.
In a somewhat ironic and timely summary. I stumbled across a paragraph in the book ‘A Life Less Punishing’ by Matt Heath, that essentially could have pointed this out to me well before smashing my head around. I suppose everything may just happen for a reason.
“Our perspective determines whether we see an event as positive, negative or neutral. Stuck in traffic, or gifted the time to listen to a podcast? Involved in a boring house shift, or getting a workout? Your life gets a lot easier if you choose to interpret things in a positive way.”
I’m not sure this is at all helpful to anyone reading but it just happens to be running around my mind this month and feels somewhat worth sharing.
