about.
Increasing house prices and lack of housing options are driving New Zealanders out of our cities. This project explores the potential of undeveloped land within existing residential properties, and how it can be utilized to provide medium density housing options in a way that benefits landowners. A system that will improve the building experience of medium density homes, for both the builders and the clients. A refined design to build relationship that results in a healthier and more efficient building process.

abstract.
Residential infill and offsite prefabrication methods combine to create a system that can be applied in various locations and adapted to serve a range of programs. Homes designed to be comfortable and adaptable while remaining efficient and enjoyable to build. A sustainable building structure that will generate more diversity and choice within Wellington’s inner-city suburbs. Allowing city living to return as a viable and affordable option.

results.
This project seeks to rethink the design to build relationship, by working backwards. Designing the building experience before designing the building. The building process informs the design of the home. Rather than the design of the home dictating the building process.
